As a school social worker, I am a vital part of the Patton educational team. I work closely with our administrators, teachers, school psychologist, speech and language pathologist and school nurse to ensure the social emotional well being of every child. As part of our training, school social workers are qualified to understand and interpret the influences of school, home and community, and we strive to identify factors that make school a more successful experience for children.
Barb Donahue, LCSW
After receiving Bachelor Degrees in both Psychology and Spanish at Marquette University, I pursued my Masters Degree in Social Work at Loyola University, Chicago. During my final year of the program (1992-93) I was offered an internship here at Patton School. I was hired by District 25 upon graduation and have been in the district since then. I initially worked at both Patton and Greenbrier Schools. As the district grew, I was eventually transferred to Patton School full time. While working at Patton, I also worked with the Communication Program, which was housed here for several years. During the 2012-13 school year, I was transferred to Windsor for a year where I was not only the building social worker, but also serviced the Foundations Program. I have learned so much from all the programs and buildings that I have worked in and with. I continue to grow each year in my communication and collaboration skills and from the experiences from a variety of schools and programs.
I am excited to be back to Patton School. I am currently in this position full time. I am so excited to be working with such a talented and supportive staff and educational team, and a wonderful community overall. I hope to make school a positive setting for all the children of Patton School and to 'plant seeds' that will help them grow to be socially and emotionally successful adults and productive members of their community.
